Hi,
I'm not able to understand how the trumpet notes written in the score for Stravinsky's Firebird end up sounding at the pitch they do.
It's complicated by the fact that it's in Cb, so 7 flats, and with the trumpet sounding a whole tone lower. This is well outside my basic knowledge of playing in common keys at concert pitch.
So, when listening to the following two chords in the original, they sound at concert pitch as an Amin 2nd inversion E A C, going to Eb minor, root inversion Eb Gg Bb.
As written, shouldn't the first written chord G C D, be first flattened to Gb Cb Db, then as they sound transposed down a tone for the Bb trumpet, finally sound as E A B, yet it actually sounds as E A C.
